KAZAKHSTAN WON THE CENTRAL ASIA CHESS CUP

November 20-30, the fourth Central Asian Chess Cup for the prizes of FIDE President took place in Almaty. The Kazakhstan Chess Federation (KCF) and the Shakhmardan Yessenov science and education Foundation organized the tournament.

As the KCF President Galymzhan Yessenov noted in his speech addressing the participants, “the Central Asia tournament attracted more than 70 participants from 5 countries and was held in Kazakhstan for the first time and the organization was excellent.” “The competition fully justified the expectations of the sports people, organizers and guests,” he added.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the simultaneous display with 30 chess lovers (from 5 to 70 years old). It was played by 2 grand masters –  multiple champion of Kazakhstan, the leader of the men’s national team in three chess Olympiads, international grandmaster Rinat Jumabaev and a 15-year-old women’s grandmaster, the champion of Asia, three-time world champion among children Zhansaya Abdumalik.

At the closing ceremony of the Cup, the Honorary President KCF Saken Seyfullin, world champion Flyura Khasanova, chief judge of the tournament and international arbiter Husan Turdaliyev and KCF’s first Vice-President Yerkin Israilov were invited to present the awards. Awards and cash prizes found their owners among the best 18 athletes of the Cup.

The top three scorers of the tournament are Rinat Zhumabayev (Kazakhstan), Farrukh Amonatov (Tajikistan) and Petr Kostenko (Kazakhstan). They got, respectively, a gold medal and 4 thousand US dollars, silver medal and 3 thousand US dollars, bronze medal and 2 thousand US dollars from the President of the International Сhess Federation (FIDE).

The highest score of the Cup – 47 points – belongs to the national team of Kazakhstan. This is the first time the National team has become the owners of this honorary chess trophy.
