YESSENOV FOUNDATION OPENS THE SHAKHMARDAN YESSENOV AUDITORIUM
On August 25, a named auditorium dedicated to the renowned scientist, science organizer and state figure Shakhmardan Yessenov was opened at Satbayev University in Almaty. The ceremonial opening of the auditorium was timed to mark the 98th anniversary of the academician’s birth. The event was attended by Galimzhan Yessenov, the founder of the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation, Meiram Begentayev, the rector of Satbayev University, as well as the scientist’s relatives and colleagues. The project was funded and carried out by the Yessenov Foundation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Galimzhan Yessenov emphasized that the inauguration of the auditorium at Kazakhstan’s first technical university is a special event for his family.
“Satbayev University played a key role in my grandfather’s life. It was here that his journey began. It was here that academician Kanysh Satbayev recognized his potential and became his mentor. I believe that today’s students at this university represent the human capital that will shape the country’s future. And may this auditorium become a place of strength, inspiration, and growth. May it be a space where ideas are born that will change the destiny of the country. And may everyone who enters here feel the spirit of a researcher, an innovator, a person who truly loved his country and believed in its future.”
Meiram Begentayev, the rector of Satbayev University, added.
“The name of Shakhmardan Yessenov holds a special place in the history of Kazakh Polytech. His life is a vivid example of service to the Motherland. I am confident that right here, in this high-tech auditorium named after the scientist and geologist, a new generation of worthy successors to his legacy will emerge. The opening of the Shakhmardan Yessenov Auditorium is a symbol of the continuity of generations and another step for our university toward the formation of the new scientific and engineering leadership of Kazakhstan.”
According to Grigoriy Lee, the Yessenov Foundation project manager, in the Yessenov auditorium students will be able to gain knowledge in comfortable environment and use the latest multimedia technologies for lectures, presentations, and joint projects. It is equipped with ergonomic furniture, and one of the walls features a timeline of Shakhmardan Yessenov’s life and achievements.
Chingiz Batyrbekov, a longtime friend and partner of the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation, and a renowned Kazakhstani architect and urbanist, is the author of the inspiring and modern auditorium’s design.
“From the very beginning, we decided that we wanted to create an environment that would allow students to disconnect from distractions and focus on intellectual pursuits. A comfortable environment – that was our goal. The auditorium turned out bright and minimalist, with nothing superfluous. We equipped it with high-quality lighting with a high color rendering index and low flicker. When selecting materials, we took acoustic comfort into account. The carpeting used on the floor has excellent sound-absorption properties, while the textured, porous plaster on the ceiling ensures sound wave dispersion. We chose wide plastic chairs with an ergonomic profile and ventilation holes. And I believe we’ve fully achieved our goal by creating a space that is both convenient and effective for studying,” shared the project’s creator.
As a reminder, the scientific discoveries and government service of Sh. Yessenov became the foundation for the development of Kazakhstan’s economy and science. Thanks to the work of the outstanding geologist and science organizer, the largest deposits of oil, gas, copper, and other minerals – including Zhezkazgan, Zhanaozen, Karazhanbas, Zhetybai, Kalamkas, Bozashchi and others – were discovered and developed, and the Mangyshlak Peninsula was retained as part of Kazakhstan. Shakhmardan Yessenov served as the Minister of Geology of the Kazakh SSR, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Kazakhstan, an academician, and President of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. The Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation continues his life’s work by developing Kazakhstan’s intellectual potential through grant programs for young and talented Kazakhstanis.
