CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS CLOSED

146 applications have been received from the students of 19 universities of Kazakhstan such as the International IT University, Karaganda State Technical University, Kyzylorda Korkyt-Ata State University and the Suleiman Demirel University. For reference, in 2014 there were only 64 applications.

The absolute leader in number of the submitted applications – 84 – is the Nazarbayev University. Among the leaders are also the Gumilyov Eurasian National University, al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Asfendiyarov Kazakh Medical University, Kazakh British Technical University and the Buketov Karagandy State University.

On January 5, the first round results, i.e. list of 30 students, will be published on the foundation’s website.  The next stage of the grant competition -interviews and business games – will take place from 22 to 25 January 2016 in Astana and Almaty.  The exact date, time and venue of the second stage of the competition will also be published on the foundation’s website until the end of the current year.

We expect to determine the names of the 10 winners and publish them by February 1. In the summer of 2016, these students will go to the best labs of the US universities. To recap, on 9 October the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation announced a grant competition for 10 grants for sophomore and junior students of technical and natural science majors, enrolled in Kazakh universities and who are citizens of Kazakhstan to undergo a research internship in the US laboratories.
