THE FOUNDATION MEETS WITH STUDENTS
On March 25 in Almaty the Shakhmardan Yessenov science and education foundation is meeting with its grantees. The annual meeting with the organization’s founder, Galymzhan Yessenov, will gather 24 young scientists, participants of the foundation’s research internship, as well as Eldar Akhmetgaliev, member of the Board of Trustees flying for the purpose from the USA, where he currently works.
We will tell you more about the meeting at the end of March, and in the meantime, we would like to draw your attention to another interesting event that will be held the same day. It is the Yessenov Lectures series with the subject of “Science and Production: Commercialisation and Development Prospects”, which Eldar Akhmetgaliyev will enrich with the lessons learned from working and living in the United States. The lecture will take place at the Kazakh-British Technical University on March 25, 4 pm.
Eldar Akhmetgaliev lives in San Diego, works in Menlo Park (Silicon Valley) and is one of the founders of the Mocap Analytics startup. Graduate of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the California Institute of Technology (PhD), he now is an adjunct professor at the Simon Fraser University (Canada). His startup specializes in sports analytics, big data and Machine training in sports such as baseball, American football, and basketball. Eldar is a member of the foundation’s Board of Trustees.
“The goal is not to tell to the students how wonderful my life is, but to try to motivate them do something worthy in their life” shares Eldar his vision of the upcoming meeting with young minds in Almaty.
The upcoming lecture will throw open its doors to anyone interested in the subject or the lecturer – we invite students of all of Almaty’s universities. Eldar will be joined by the foundation’s two grantees of its summer research internship program – a Stanford University student Tamirlan Seidakhmetov and Kulyash Zhumadilova of Nazarbayev University.
For reference, the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation provides the Kazakhstan students with grants to carry out internships at the best research laboratories of the US universities. 19 young scientists have already completed the program while ten more are to do so in the summer of 2016.
