Aibar Serik

Specialization: Automation and Control. Recipient of the Yessenov scholarship.

Fourth year student of Gumilyov Eurasian National University was born in Zhezkazgan, in the heart of Kazakhstan, by his own statement. In childhood, when the guy still could not read, Aibar often went with his mother to the library, he spent a lot of time reviewing books. Today he is 20, and he comprehends the features of technological processes automation and their management in the capital. There is good reason that the young Kazakhstani was one of the most active participants and won the competition for the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation scholarship program last year. It could not be otherwise, because he is passionate about his specialty.

Why and how did you choose this particular specialty?
Zhanul Assan, my school physics teacher, influenced the choice. It was he who helped me to develop an interest in technical sciences, and I wrote my first project under his direction. We visited the Skolkovo innovation center in Russia with the project and after that I felt the potential and power of technological progress. His influence on our lives will grow and so I decided that I would study technical engineering in order to develop and improve production.

What are your interests besides the IT sphere, how do you spend your free time?
I try to spend it on sports, I often get together with friends, and we play football. I don’t forget to read. I was interested in business literature at one time, but now I am keen on adventure classics, for example, Alexandre Duma;s writings.

What is your most vivid memory of the foundation scholarship competition?
Probably, I will not surprise anyone if I say that it happened when I had received a letter of congratulations from the foundation about my victory and scholarship winning. I was glad and proud.

Why did you win in your idea?
Probably because the interview panel got the impression that I was an interesting and purposeful person.

How did the scholarship help you?
Now I am actively improving my English, and this scholarship helps a lot.

What advice can you give to those who decide to apply for the competition this year?
Be as honest and open as possible, as I believe these qualities play a key role on the way toward the victory. And of course, you need to believe in yourself and your strength!

What do you plan to do after completing your bachelor’s degree, after all you are finishing it this summer?
I plan to undertake a master’s degree. Now I am doing an internship at the Kazakhmys corporation as an assistant engineer and working at my graduation project.
