His endeavors led to discovery of many deposits upon which the modern Kazakhstan has built its economy. So naming the event “Shakhmardan Yessenov Memorial” feels justified – said the Foundation’s Executive Director Aiganym Malisheva.

The geologist’s day in Kazakhstan is celebrated on the first Sunday of April in accordance with the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan dated October 20, 2011. Although the holiday traces its history back to the days of the Soviet Union, as an independent state, Kazakhstan first celebrated the day in 2012.
