STUDYING ENGLISH AT THE KYZYLORDA STATE UNIVERSITY

In early September, the English language program competition was completed, which the Scientific and Educational Fund named after Sh.Esenov had been started in the State University named after Korkyt Ata in Kyzylorda. 127 students and teachers have already started their studies.

385 students and 111 teachers of the University (496 in total) applied for the program. Most of the participants are studying or working in engineering-technological, engineering-ecological, pedagogical faculties and the faculty of natural sciences in the Kyzylorda State University. The competition was held in 3 stages. First, the Commission, consisting of specialists of the Fund – Zhadyra Sarmanova and Nursultan Nurmukhanov and employee of well-known international educational company “Bonas MacFarlane Education” – Vernon Lehmann – assessed the quality of the applications, students ‘ GPAs and essays of the contestants. At the next stage, all applicants were invited to undergo a written test and in the end, they had to demonstrate their proficiency in speaking English through the interview.

— As the outcomes of the competition, we selected 127 winners. They all became the participants of the English language program, and received a grant from the Fund named after Sh.Esenov. 94 students and 33 teachers are among the winners, — said Zhadyra Sarmanovа. — The participants had to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency. We have checked their skills in speaking, since the results of the written tests do not give the full picture. Based on all the indicators, we have formed groups. The goal of the program is not just to improve the language skills, but to create as efficiently as possible an environment for practicing English for the participants.

From 19th September, the classes under the Fund’s program have been started in Korkyt Ata University. The tutors are Vernon Lehmann and Elvis Emekwe. Both are employees of “Bonas MacFarlane Education Kazakhstan”. Vernon has proven himself during the similar program of the Fund in the Caspian State University of Technologies and Engineering that was carried out in Aktau in 2013-2016. As a result, after graduating from the program, 192 students and 64 teachers improved their level of English in the field of their profession. Kyzylorda program will be completed in May 2019.

Let us remind that earlier, the competition in Kyzylorda was scheduled to be finished at the end of the previous academic year, however, at the request of the University Administration, the Fund found it possible to extend application deadlines until 4th September.
